What are the Gymnastic Rings Options?

There are several gym rings options to choose from. Each of them has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. We have covered the most common options for you to choose from below:

Wooden Rings:

Wooden rings are made from solid wood and are usually lighter than most other types of rings, making them easier to carry around and install in various places such as your basement or office.

What are wooden rings used for?
However, they are great to hang a tire swing or tree swing outdoors (please ensure that they are adequately anchored).

The wooden rings are very durable, flexible, and easy to adjust into different positions when needed too.

Plastic Rings:

Plastic rings are made from non-toxic materials and are very lightweight. It means that they don’t take up much space, and you can easily carry them around with you.

Metal Rings

Metal rings are made from steel or aluminium to increase their durability. It means that they are strong enough to hold a lot of weight, up to several hundred pounds.

Also, you can use them outdoors without any issues. However, they can also corrode and rust over time if you do not properly maintain them.

How and Where to Hang Gymnastic Rings?

The most common reasons why people make mistakes when they are trying to hang gym rings in the basement are:

Incorrect space:

If you want to hang gymnastic rings in your basement, you need to make sure that there is enough space available in the basement.

The ring should rotate freely and swing back and forth when you hang them correctly.

If the rings are not hung properly, they will fall and break, leaving you with no more gymnastic rings to use.

For example, if the ring is hung on a wall of your basement that is not strong enough to support the weight of the ring while swinging back and forth, it will fall. It will not only damage your gymnastic ring but also leave a big hole in your wall as well.

Inadequate load:

Hanging gymnastic rings in your basement can be dangerous. If you do not use the correct weight to hang them, you’ll likely get hurt when the rings fall.

So unless you do it at your own risk, always use your safety in mind when hanging gymnastic rings in any place.

Therefore, make sure that you are using enough weight. Sometimes, people use too little weight to hang gymnastic rings securely, and it is a mistake that they can easily make when hanging them in their basement.

Also, make sure that the place you are hanging them is not at a high risk of collapsing.

Wrong type of ring:

It is important to note that you will need to use the correct rings when hanging gymnastic rings in your gym in your basement. It can be essential to ensure that they won’t fall or break.

For example, if you are using steel bars to hang the rings, they will most likely fall when they get heavy and get too much stress on them from the swinging of the ring and damage your floor or walls below them.

Therefore, always use the correct type of rings for your needs.

Where and How to Hang Your Rings in the basement?

There are different ways of hanging gymnastic rings in the basement, and they vary according to the type of ring you use. However, the most common methods are:

How do you hang gymnastic rings indoors?

Butt Joint:

It is a prevalent method that most people often use when hanging gymnastic rings. It is safe and secure since the rings are anchored to the basement walls between two bearing walls.

The ring is then attached to an anchor point (such as a post, beam or stringers) which supports the whole weight of the ring and the weight of its users hanging onto it.

The advantage of this method is that it offers excellent safety from falls and allows for easy access for cleaning and maintenance purposes.

Another advantage is that you can always use this method if you want to hang more than two rings. The main disadvantage of this method is that it takes a lot of room in your basement to do this.

However, if you want to hang only one or two rings in your basement, then this method will be perfect for you.

The sloping method can be used as an alternative to the butt joint method when hanging more than six rings. However, it should be noted that there has been a debate about whether or not this is a safe way to hang one or more rings.

Why? Because the closer you get to the ground, the chances of a fall increase. It is often advised that you should not use this method unless you know what you are doing or if you are a professional gymnast.

The advantage of this method is that it is cheaper than any other method, and it can be done relatively quickly with simple tools such as a ladder.

Two-Way Lock:

It is an effortless way to hang gymnastic rings in your basement as well. And also, it is the cheapest of all the other methods as well.

To use this method, you will need a reasonably large ring with two locking pins. These pins are then installed in your basement walls as they lock the ring in place. One of the advantages of this method is that it is effortless to use and install.

Another advantage is that if you want to do some gymnastic exercises using two rings, you can easily use this method to hang them both simultaneously. It will allow for better coordination and balance between the power of your arms and legs when doing gymnastic moves and exercises.

Anchor Point:

This method does not only provide security for the rings and your floor or walls below them, but it also allows for safe and easy access.

The anchor point is a small U-shaped metal bar installed above the ring. This U-shaped bar then bolts onto the wall and holds the weight of the ring so that it does not fall or break.

The main advantage of this method is that there is no risk of falls or injury to anyone. Also, it is very safe and easy to install.

This method only needs a little bit of space inside your basement to be used, which means that you can easily hang a lot of rings in this way.

However, it is essential to note that you must ensure that the ring is supported with steel construction and anchors are kept in place with concrete or bricks.

Carabiner Hook:

In case you have some extra space in your basement, then you can use this method to hang your rings safely while at the same time offering enough space for other things too. The most common form of installing this method is hanging a carabiner hook on your ceiling beam or a door frame.

It will allow you to hang the rings through it, which means that they won’t fall or break when they are swung back and forth by users.

The advantage of using this method is that it is very safe as it ensures the safety of all rings and your floor or walls below. It is also simple to install.

However, you will need to be very careful when installing this because it can easily snap off if you do not use it at the correct angle.

Another method of hanging gymnastic rings in your basement is from the concrete ceiling beam. This method provides a lot of safety because if a fallen ring hits the beam, it will only come down on itself and not damage your floor or walls below them.

Moreover, this method is also very cheap and straightforward as it only needs a few essential tools. However, you should be careful when hanging gymnastic rings on the ceiling beam because they can easily tip and fall.

This method is an effortless way to hang gymnastic rings in your basement while at the same time offering excellent safety and convenience. This method is also known as Zeppelin Hang (named after the Zeppelin-style frame).

It consists of a structure that hangs from your ceiling beam or wall using 2-3 loops of rope; each loop is connected to 2 of these ropes that hang from the ceiling beam or wall. It is also helpful for keeping your rings in a particular position and not swinging around.

The advantage of this method is that it offers excellent safety from falls and has great convenience because you can easily pull from the ceiling beam or wall instead of bending down and reaching the more convenient rings.

Stack Rings:

Another way of hanging gymnastic rings in your basement is through the use of multiple tie-offs or a stack ring. You can use this method to hang six to eight rings simultaneously from one single tie-off.

To do this, you will need to take a piece of wood, which is 2 feet longer than the most extended ring that you plan to use in your basement.

Then, you will need to wrap 1-2 ropes around this piece of wood. Next, you will need to connect the top 1 to 2 rope from your ceiling beam or wall using a carabiner.

Finally, after doing that, set up a few tie-offs, attach them from the ceiling beam or wall using another carabiner, and then tighten it using knots.

In conclusion, hanging gymnastic rings in your basement can be very easy to do if you know what kind of material you need.

And also have to ensure that the material is strong enough so that the gymnastic rings do not break from natural wear and tear.

It is also important to note that each of the methods above has its advantages and disadvantages; you should therefore choose one which suits your purpose as best as possible.
